Chief Marketing Officer
Marissa Freeman is the Chief Marketing Officer at Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG). Marissa joins USHG as an accomplished marketing and creative leader, with agency and client-side executive-level experience at both consumer and B2B companies. Passionate about purpose, creativity and branding, and expert in delivering digital marketing at scale, Freeman helps innovative companies navigate transformation and drive profitable growth.
Before joining USHG, Freeman was the chief brand officer at Hewlett Packard Enterprise where she was responsible for navigating the historic split of Hewlett Packard into two Fortune 50 brands. Freeman then spearheaded the worldwide launch of the new HPE corporate brand, recognized as the highest new entry of all time in Interbrand’s Best Global Brands. In the years post-launch, her work firmly established HPE as a leader in the emerging edge computing category and carved out a profitable niche for the company alongside the three major cloud players.
Prior to HPE, Freeman held executive positions at several world-class ad agencies, including BBDO, DDB and Deutsch LA. Known for inspiring teams and greenlighting first-to-market ideas, she ran some of the largest and most creative accounts during her agency career. It was her effective management of the incredibly competitive DIRECTV business at Deutsch LA that pulled her to a client-side leadership position at Time Warner Cable. There, she served as SVP Brand Strategy, turning the tables on the competition, and significantly growing the business. Freeman’s work has received global recognition including the AMA Marketer of the Year Award and she was recently named one of Brand Innovators Top 100 Women in Brand Marketing.
Freeman graduated from Montclair State University and has lectured at Columbia Business School and New York University. She resides in Brooklyn with her husband and 12-year-old twins.
