DANNY MEYER’S UNION SQUARE HOSPITALITY GROUP
TO LAUNCH PORCHLIGHT
New Bar from the Blue Smoke Team to Open in 2014
October 29, 2013, New York — Union Square Hospitality Group will launch Porchlight, a new bar with a Southern accent, in the historic 1891 Waterfront New York Building (WFNY). Developed by USHG CEO Danny Meyer and Blue Smoke’s Co-Founder and Senior Managing Partner, Mark Maynard-Parisi, Porchlight is set to open in autumn 2014.
Porchlight will serve signature cocktails, regional microbrews and soulful, Southern-inspired bar food. Located at the corner of 28th Street and 11th Avenue, occupying almost 4,000 square feet of ground floor space, Porchlight will be designed by New York-based architecture and design firm Parts and Labor Design to create an atmosphere of comfort and style with a touch of irreverent flair. “We’re thrilled to have the unique opportunity to design something special for Danny Meyer and Union Square Hospitality Group, and develop a new off-shoot for the Blue Smoke team,” said Andrew Cohen, Principal at Parts and Labor Design.
Maynard-Parisi will oversee service and day-to-day operations in collaboration with Blue Smoke’s Director of Operations Kari Matthews. Maynard-Parisi and Matthews will continue to run Blue Smoke Enterprises, which includes the Southern-inspired flagship Blue Smoke restaurant that USHG opened in 2002, the Battery Park City location opened in 2011, Jazz Standard jazz club and three Blue Smoke On The Road outposts in Citi Field, Nationals Park, and John F. Kennedy International Airport, Delta Terminal 4.
A 21- year veteran of USHG, Maynard-Parisi was the founding General Manager of Blue Smoke and Jazz Standard and has led every aspect of the restaurants, jazz club, and catering company, helping to build the business from concept to reality and overseeing operations. Regarding opening Porchlight, Mark Maynard-Parisi said “We are excited and proud to be a pioneering member of the vibrant, evolving community in Manhattan’s burgeoning West Chelsea.
